Coach Zach's Blog
Saturday, January 12th

I can’t tell you how excited I am to get this season up and going.  I expect a lot of things out of this group.  We picked up two incredibly talented offensive players in Ashley Estes (Notre Dame Academy in Covington) and Sam James (Presentation Academy in Louisville).  It’s made for an interesting load of preseason practices.
We have four middles looking for playing time.  I’ve reminded them a couple of different times that there’s one hell of competition for those spots, and they’re up for grabs.  But they’ve failed to grasp that they need to find another gear to separate themselves from the rest of the pack and really EARN a starting job.  We’ll see how they perform this weekend in Indianapolis, but I still want to see a couple of them really earn those spots in the middle.  We’ve also had a tough time getting everyone to practice as well.  They’ve been sick, had retreats, etc.  That’s made it tough to figure out what our lineup is going to be.  That will change as we get into a groove.
I love the addition of our two new players, but we also lost one of our main defensive specialists last year in Sam McAlister, which has made us a little thin in the back row, so we’re also looking for someone to plug into the back row.  Whoever it is, it will be someone who isn’t use to playing back there.
So needless to say, this team is not where I want them to be right now, but that’s okay.  I don’t want to be perfect right now, and I couldn’t be more excited for this team to get out and play.  They NEED to play.  We need to see, more specifically, where our weaknesses our, and what strengths of ours we should try to really harp on as the season continues.
I’m glad it’s here.  Hope you all enjoy the blogs!
